At 12.15hrs on 23rd August 1943 the crew of this 1 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft were landing at Thornaby airfield during a training exercise when a tyre burst. The aircraft swung off runway and the starboard rudder struck some form of obstruction. The aircraft was slightly damaged but was repaired.

Halifax W1060 was built to contract B982938/39 by English Electric Co. Ltd at Salmesbury and was delivered to 78 Squadron at Croft in April 1942.
It transferred to 502 Squadron at St.Eval in January 1943 and then on to 1 (c)O.T.U. almost certainly in August 1943. Following this incident at Thornaby Cat.B/FA damage was recorded and after repair it was issued to 1674 H.C.U. where it served until being put into storage where it was then struck off
charge on 14th May 1945.
