Beaufighter V8499 damaged by flak, landed at Church Fenton airfield.
A brief mention of this incident has been located in the Church Fenton airfield station record book and stated that on 25th June 1943 the crew of this 141 Squadron aircraft had been flying a "Ranger" patrol when the aircraft suffered "flak" damage. The instruments had been damaged and the crew became lost over Liverpool. Having transmitted a radio message the operations room at Church Fenton picked up their signal and the Beaufighter was safely brought in to land at Church Fenton.
The 141 Squadron record books are at odds with this and state that the 141 Squadron Beaufighter took off from base of Coltishall at 23.55 on 24th June 1943 to undertake an "Intruder" operational patrol of the Eindhoven area but then suffered from radio trouble to abandoned the flight and then landed at Church Fenton in the early hours. It does not mention any damage to the aircraft being sustained through enemy action.
