Dornier Do217 U5+AN near Long Riston.
On the night of 25th / 26th July 1943 the crew of this aircraft were one of a number detailed to bomb Hull, this aircraft was shot down by anti-aircraft gun fire at 01.15hrs and crashed near Criftens Farm, Long Riston. All four members of the crew went down with the aircraft and were killed.

In 1999 historians Albert Pritchard, Eric Barton and Ken Reast were part of a group of interested people who attended a recovery at the crash site with an MoD licence and landowner consent. The photograph above shows Eric Barton with a propeller boss from one of the aircraft's engines which I understand was the sizable item picked up on a magnetometry survey.
