Beaufighter T5294 at Catfoss airfield.

On 7th March 1943 this No.2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung on take off from Catfoss airfield, the port undercarriage collapsed and the port engine was damaged.

Beaufighter T5294 was built to contract B.41908/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Stockport and was flown to 27 MU at Shawbury as new on 4th October 1942. On 11th October 1942 it was taken on charge by No.2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit at Catfoss. On 7th March 1943 it swung on take off at Catfoss which damaged the port undercarriage. Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. On 22nd August 1943 it was again damaged at Catfoss and Cat.B/FA damage was the damage assessment. On 31st August 1943 it was transported to Lancashire Aircraft Corporation Ltd. at Samlesbury for a repair in works. Once repaired it was flown to 46 MU at Lossiemouth on 19th February 1944. On 12th May 1944 it was taken on charge by No.9 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit at Crosby on Eden but on 14th August 1944 it went back to 46 MU at Lossiemouth. It was then struck off charge on 23rd September 1944.
