Beaufighter T5157 at Catfoss airfield.

On 20th February 1943 this 2 (C)O.T.U. aircraft overshot on landing at Catfoss airfield, both undercarriages, the centre section and both engines were recorded in the unit ORB as being shockloaded.

Beaufighter T5157 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in June 1942. It was initially taken on charge by 235 Squadron at Docking before moving with the unit to Chivenor on 16th July 1942. The aircraft was transferred to 236 Squadron at Oulton and moved with them to North Coates on 19th September 1942. The date it was transferred to 2 (C)O.T.U. is not known. As a result of the damage at Catfoss on 20th February 1943 minor Cat.A(c)/FA was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. The aircraft later appears on charge with 9 (C)O.T.U. at Crosby on Eden where it remained until the unit disbanded on 11th August 1944. It was taken into MU store pending disposal and was struck off charge on 11th April 1945.
