Beaufighter T4864 near Leven.
On 28th May 1943 the port engine of this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft caught fire soon after taking off from Catfoss airfield for a training flight, the pilot force landed near the village of Leven. The aircraft was badly damaged, sustaining damaged to the undercarriage, fuselage and mainplanes with both engines becoming detached.

Beaufighter T4864 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd, at Stockport and was awaiting collection in September 1941. The aircraft appears to have only ever served with 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit but the date it was taken on charge is not yet known. As a result of the incident at Leven on 28th May 1943 Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment and the aircraft was struck off charge.
