Beaufighter T4797 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in August 1941. The dates the aircraft arrived at it's various units are not known. It was initially taken on charge by 2 (C)O.T.U. shortly after completion but was transferred to 235 Squadron probably while they were still based at Dyce. On 25th March 1942 235 Squadron moved to Sumburgh but in May 1942 they ceased operating Beaufighter MkI's so this aircraft was placed in MU storage. It was then taken on charge by 2 (C)OTU again. As a result of the accident on 10th February 1943 Cat.B/FA damage was the assessment and it was dismantled and transported for a repair in works. Once there it was assessed again it was deemed beyond economic repair, it was then converted to a ground instructional airframe 4588M in February 1944. Nothing more of the aircraft is then recorded.
