On 2nd May 1943 this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung on take off from Catfoss airfield, the starboard undercarriage collapsed and the aircraft sustained damage to the starboard engine, undercarriage and wing.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Beaufighter T4791 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in July 1941. For a short period the aircraft was retained by Fairey Aviation before it was taken on charge by the F.I.U. at Ford. The aircraft next appeared on charge with A.A.E.E. at Boscombe Down before moving the 2 (c) O.T.U. at Catfoss. No dates of transfer are yet known for any of these movements. As a result of the accident at Catfoss on 2nd May 1943 CatAc/FA damage appeas to have been the damage assessment which would have seen it repaired on site at Catfoss. The aircraft appears to have remained with 2 (C)O.T.U. until the unit disbanded on 15th February 1944 which then saw it placed in MU storage pending disposal. It was struck off charge on 26th January 1945.
