Beaufighter T4727 at Catfoss airfield.
On 8th March 1943 this 2 (C)O.T.U. aircraft was taxied into a ditch at Catfoss airfield, the undercarriage collapsed and both engines were shock-loaded.

Beaufighter T4727 was built to contract B.41906/39 by Fairey Aviation Ltd. at Heaton Chapel, Stockport and was awaiting collection in May 1941. Almost immediately it was taken on charge by 143 Squadron at Aldergrove soon after the unit formed on 15th June 1941. 143 Squadron then moved to Thornaby on 4th July 1941, Dyce on 19th July 1941 and Sumburgh on 29th September 1941. In December 1941 143 Squadron ceased operating the type. The aircraft was transferred to 236 Squadron at Carew Cheriton who then moved to Wattisham on 9th February 1942. In July 1942 this unit ceased operating the type and the aircraft was transferred to 2 (C)O.T.U. at Catfoss. As a result of the mishap on 8th March 1943 Cat.A(c)/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. On 11th December 1943 it overshot and crashed at Catfoss which wrote the aircraft off, Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded on the paperwork.
