Halifax R9424 at Burn airfield.

Ar 15.30hrs on 2nd July 1943 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft burst a tyre on landing at Burn airfield that saw the starboard undercarriage leg collapse.

Halifax R9424 was built to contract 692649/37 by Handley Page Ltd. at Radlett and was taken on charge by 102 Squadron at Dalton on 17th February 1942. On 21st April 1942 the aircraft was flown to 45 M.U. at Kinloss for storage. On 10th June 1942 it was taken on charge by 1652 Conversion Unit at Marston Moor. The unit later became known as 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit. On 20th April 1943 it received Cat.Ac/FA following a taxying accident. The repair on site commenced on 28th April 1943 and was complete on 16th June 1943. On 2nd July 1943 it burst a tyre on landing at Burn. Minor Cat.Ac/FA damage to the aircraft resulted and it took until 17th August 1943 for a repair on site to be complete. On 2nd December 1943 it failed a major repair / inspection that saw an assessment of Cat.E1 made. The aircraft was then struck off charge on 4th December 1943 having logged a total of 340 hours total flying time.
