Halifax R9387 at Riccall airfield.

On 17th August 1943 this crew were undertaking a daytime circuits and landings training exercise with 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit when, during one of the landings at Riccall, a tyre burst at 12.54hrs. The undercarriage then collapsed. The crew of the aircraft is not known but was probably the same who flew with the listed pilot at 77 Squadron later in the year.

Pilot - Sgt John Francis Albury Bailey RAFVR (1575646).

John Bailey completed his training and was posted to 77 Squadron. He was sadly killed on 3rd October 1943 when Halifax LW269 crashed in Germany with the loss of the whole crew. John Bailey was twenty one years old and is buried in Hanover War Cemetery.
