Lancaster R5500 at Lindholme airfield.
On 30th January 1943 this 1656 Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training flight, after a flight lasting seventy five minutes the aircraft landed at Lindholme at 13.00hrs. While taxying the port main wheel left the runway and ran over a buried drain that then collapsed with the weight on it. The tail of the aircraft swung around and the tail wheel collapsed. Minor Cat.Ac damage resulted.

Lancaster R5500 was delivered as new to 207 Squadron on 13th March 1942 but received Cat.B/FB damage on 21st April 1942 at Waddington when the aircraft made a heavy landing causing the undercarriage to collapse. It received a repair in works by A.V.Roe Ltd and once repaired was issued to 460 Squadron on 21st October 1942. A day later it passed to 1656 H.C.U. at Lindholme. The aircraft suffered a collapsed undercarriage leg at Lindholme on 30th January 1943, Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. It was returned to 1656 H.C.U. on 20th February 1943. On 25th June 1943 it was taking off from Lindholme when the tail wheel assembly broke off. Cat.Ac/FA damage was again the damage assessment, it was repaired on site and returned to 1656 H.C.U. on 10th July 1943. On 9th August 1943 another heavy landing at Lindholme airfield casued the starboard undercarriage leg to collapse. Cat.Ac/FA damage was again the damage assessment and it was repaired on site, to be returned to 1656 H.C.U. on 11th September 1943. The aircraft was transferred to 1667 H.C.U. on 23rd September 1943 and to No.1 L.F.S. on 23rd January 1944. On 7th April 1944 it received further Cat.Ac/FA damage. Again it was repaired on site and returned to No.1 LFS on 22nd April 1944. The aircraft passed to N0.4 School of Technical Training on 21st October 1944 and was converted to Ground Instructional Airframe 4902M. It lasted until 5th December 1946 when it is listed as being struck off charge.
