Barracuda P9714 near Sherburn in Elmet.
On 12th July 1943 this aircraft is believed to have been on a transit flight with 847 Squadron between Lee on Solent and Fearn airfields as part of the squadron's move. Little is know about why the aircraft came to force land in a field around three miles from Sherburn other than a fuel cock may have not been selected to a tank with in it. This would suggest that the aircraft had run out of available fuel in the selected tanks and that the engine then failed. 847 Squadron were torpedo bomber reconnaissance not normally associated with flying over Yorkshire. I would welcome additional information about anything to do with this incident or the crew.
