Martinet MS628 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.
At 13.00hrs on 17th August 1943 this Martinet was being taxied to a dispersal point at Sherburn in Elmet airfield prior to being flown on an ATA ferry flight when it collided with parked Hurricane V6637. It was later found that the brake on the starboard wheel of the Martinet failed because of a connection on a hydraulic pipe had worked loose.
Pilot - Sgt Warren Earl Loomis RCAF, of Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
The pilot qualified as a pilot in Canada following training at 32 SFTS. At the time of this mishap at Sherburn he was seconded to the ATA and served in the ATA between 6th February 1943 and 11th November 1943 with the service number "M.852". He must have been taken off pilot duties as in 1944 he then qualified as an air bomber.
