Halifax LW295 possibly damaged in the air, landed at Breighton airfield.

During the evening of 3rd November 1943 the crew of this 78 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Dusseldorf and took off from Breighton airfield at 16.52hrs. The crew released their bomb load over the target area from 18,000 feet at 19.52hrs. There is an AM Form 1180 for this aircraft on this date but it is left blank only stating "No Crash". I assume it received some form of "friendly" damage, perhaps damage by falling bombs released by a higher flying aircraft over the target. The aircraft landed safely at Breighton at 22.09hrs. I have not located service numbers in the squadron records for this crew but the list below is what I presume to be the crew. I welcome corrections.

Pilot - F/Sgt Ernest Arthur McGregor RAAF (413012).

Navigator - Sgt Paul Frederick Snell RCAF (J/85030).

Bomb Aimer - Sgt Joseph Leslie Kirner RAFVR (1585605).

Wireless Operator / Air Gunner - Sgt William Arnold Smither RAFVR (1387026).

Flight Engineer - F/Sgt William Edward Pattison RAFVR (649343).

Air Gunner - P/O Jack Crichton Palmer RAFVR (149908).

Air Gunner - Sgt Aloys George Stark RCAF.
