On 20th October 1943 the crew of this 78 Squadron aircraft were carrying out a night training flight and were trying to land at 22.30hrs. The pilot had made a poor approach to land, the aircraft appears to have touched down at Breighton airfield which slightly damaged the undercarriage. He then made a successful overshoot procedure, flew another circuit of the airfield but on making another landing the undercarriage collapsed. The pilot was deemed at fault and was posted back to a Heavy Conversion Unit for further training.
Pilot - Sgt J J Rolfe RAFVR (1392782).
