Wellington LN241 damaged in air, returned to East Moor airfield.

On the night of 8th / 9th October 1943 the crew of this 432 Squadron aircraft took off from East Moor airfield at around 23.00hrs to undertake an operational flight to bomb Hannover. While over the target area the Wellington was struck on the port elevator by a bomb released from a higher flying aircraft. The elevator sustained damage but it did not prevent the crew making a safe return to base, landing at East Moor at around 04.00hrs. In the weeks that followed this incident all airmen would convert to flying the Halifax type and resume their tour with 432 Squadron.
