Wellington LN186 at Bircotes airfield.
On 2nd December 1943 the crew of this 18 O.T.U. aircraft were undertaking a circuit training exercise around Bircotes airfield. At 10.30hrs it made a heavy landing which caused the undercarriage to collapse. The aircraft received damaged deemed enough to write it off.
Pilot - F/O James Girvan McCall RAFVR (127340).
Crew - Names unknown.
James MCCall had enlisted in 1941 and spent time in the USA as a flying instructor. He would be killed with 148 Squadron on an SOE flight on 5th August 1944
and is buried in Krakow, Poland.
