Halifax LK905 at Tholthorpe airfield.
On the night of 22nd / 23rd October 1943 this 431 Squadron undertook an operational flight to bomb Kassel and took off from Tholthorpe at 17.40hrs. The port inner engine failed before reaching the target. The crew did not release their bomb load. On return to Tholthorpe this crew were given a priority landing, landing on three engines the aircraft ran off the runway at 00.28hrs. Whether any damaged resulted is unclear, the aircraft's AM Form 78 does not indicate any damage but 431 Squadron flew no other operational sorties in October 1943 so it may have been repaired before it was next used operationally or simply not damaged.
