Halifax LK694 at Leeming airfield.
On the night of 25th / 26th November 1943 the crew of this 427 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Frankfurt. At around 23.37hrs the aircraft was marshalled off it's dispersal point at Leeming airfield onto the perimeter track. Halifax LK989 of 429 Squadron was already on the perimeter track and heading towards the queue of aircraft to await their turn to take off. LK694's marshalling team appear to have taken their initiative and told LK694's crew to go in front of LK989 but this was not made clear to anyone else and both aircraft collided. Both aircraft sustained damage and did not take off. The pilot's name is listed in the squadron records but his crew are not though they may be his regular one. Hours later he crashed Halifax LL139 at Leeming.
Pilot - Sgt Alfred James King RCAF (R/144492).
