Hurricane LE768 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

On 24th November 1943 this aircraft had just taken off from Sherburn in Elmet airfield for a ferry flight but after leaving the ground the pilot attempted to raise both undercarriage legs and found that only the starboard leg would raise properly. He flew a circuit of the airfield and landed immediately without damage to the aircraft. Upon inspection of the fault to the port undercarriage it was found that a hydraulic ram on the port undercarriage system was bent (detailed on its own webpage). The aircraft was repaired at Sherburn in the coming days.

At 11.30hrs on 28th November 1943 it was ready for the ferry flight and was being taxied at Sherburn by a 7 Ferry Pilot Pool pilot of the ATA when the port wing of LE768 struck the propeller of another aircraft. The identity of the aircraft the Hurricane struck is not yet known.

Pilot (on 24/11/1943) - 1st Officer Hugh Proctor Blundell ATA (M.771).
