Skua L2927 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.
On 3rd April 1943 this aircraft suffered a loss of engine oil pressure soon after take off from Sherburn in Elmet airfield for a ferry flight, the ATA pilot
made a hurried return and force landed on Sherburn airfield at 10.00hrs. The pilot survived. The engine was inspected and a considerable quantity of metal was found in the oil filters.

Skua L2927 was built to contract 534298/36 by the Blackburn Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Brough and on 6th April 1939 it was delivered to 801 Squadron FAA at Donisbristle. In October 1939 it was taken on charge by 803 Squadron FAA at Worthy Down. Whilst operating with 803 Squadron FAA this aircraft was flying off HMS Ark Royal before transferring to HMS Glorious in April 1940. During July 1940 HMS Glorious was operating in the Mediterranean and on 3rd July 1940 the crew of this Skua claimed a Curtis Hawk 75 damaged, a Morane 406 damaged and shared a Breuguet Bizerta damaged off Oran, Algeria. On 9th July 1940 it's crew claimed a Cant Z506B shot down. On 2nd August 1940 they claimed a Cant Z501 as being shot down and on 31st August 1940 the crew claimed both a Cant Z501 and a Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 as shot down. In October 1940 it was placed in MU storage. On 31st January 1941 it was taken on charge by 774 Squadron FAA at Donibristle and during August 1941 it was transferred to 792 Squadron FAA at St Merryn. The aircarft was flown into storage at Eastleigh on 25th January 1942 but later in 1942 it was taken on charge by 772 Squadron FAA at Machrihanish. On 12th August 1942 it received Cat.X damage when it was force landed in soft ground in bad visibility but the location is not known. The aircraft was repaired on site. On 3rd April 1943 it crashed at Sherburn in Elmet while on a ferry flight with the ATA, Cat.A/FA was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. Later in 1943 the aircraft was taken on charge by 771 Squadron FAA at Twatt. On 26th August 1943 it developed a bad oil leak and forced to ditch off Orkney. Cat.Z damage was the damage recorded on the paperwork and it was written off.
