On 12th June 1943 this 4 E.F.T.S. aircraft was damaged at Thornaby airfield when it hit a bump on take off and overturned.
The aircraft was later repaired.

Tiger Moth K4256 had a long service history, it was built to contract 307395/35 by De Havilland (factory unknown) and delivered to Kenley on 2nd January 1935, it later transferred to 1 ASU on 21st February 1936, 16 ERFTS on 29th June 1937 where it suffered a minor Cat.R/FA crash on 15th June 1938. It was repaired only to suffered another Cat.R/FA on 15th May 1939. It moved on an as yet unknown date to 10 ERFTS and suffered another Cat.R/FA on 25th October 1939. Again it was repaired and for reasons unknown was passed back to D.H. on 30th December 1940, probably for modifications. It then passed to 10 MU on 1st March 1941 and was issued to 4 EFTS at Brough on 20th March 1941 where it suffered a Cat.A/FA accident on 19th
August 1942. Again it was repaired and following the accident detailed above it was sent to Taylorcraft for repair on
8th July 1943 having sustained Cat.B/FA damage. After repair it was issued to 20 MU on 5th September 1943 and held in storage. It was transferred to 43 OTU on 1st September 1945 but moved to 38 MU for storage on 31st January 1946. It was finally struck off charge on 8th June 1950.
