Halifax JP126 at Breighton airfield.

On the night of 3rd / 4th Decemeber 1943 78 Squadron were ordered to supply in the region of twenty aircraft for an operational flight to bomb Leipzig. The squadron records state that nineteen aircraft actually took off but does not mention that two of their other aircraft collided on the ground prior to taking off from Breighton airfield. There is an AM Form 1180 that states at 23.30hrs on 3rd December 1943 Halifax LW235 stopped near perimeter on getting instruction from ground crew to halt. Unfortunately the perimeter track lighting failed and Halifax LW235 was then struck by "Halifax JP162" that was taxying on the perimeter track. Both aircraft sustained damage and were prevented from taking off. Only the pilot's name for LW235 is given. Halifax JP162 cannot be the correct identity as this aircraft or any of the JP16.. batch ever served with 78 Squadron. Halifax JP126 was with 78 Squadron at this time and while it's AM Form 78 does not mention any damage sustained on this date I suspect minor Cat.A damage would not be logged anyway.
