Beaufighter JL851 at Catfoss airfield.

On 20th September 1943 this 2 (C)O.T.U. aircraft landed heavily at Catfoss airfield damaging the starboard undercarriage and starboard engine. Given this damage, the starboard undercarriage leg may have collapsed but I have not yet viewed any accident records relating to this incident.

Pilot - Sgt Reginald Thomas Gosling RAFVR (1339870).

(Possibly) Navigator / Radar operator - Sgt Clive George Taylor RAFVR (1579453).


F/Sgt Reginald Gosling was killed on 13th April 1944 while serving with 603 Squadron in North Africa. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial.
While in the rank of W/O Clive Taylor was awarded the DFC for service with 684 Squadron, Gazetted in March 1946.
