Beaufighter JL849 at Catfoss airfield.
On 3rd May 1943 this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung on landing at Catfoss airfield and from the damage that was listed it would appear that both undercarriage legs collapsed. The aircraft sustained damage to the undercarriages, propellers, engines and the underside of the fuselage.

Beaufighter JL849 was built to contract B.85570/40 by the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Old Mixon and was awaiting collection in February 1943. The aircraft was taken on charge as new by 2 (C) O.T.U. at Catfoss but the date it arrived is not known. As a result of the damage sustained at Catfoss on 3rd May 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the assessment and it was repaired on site. The aircraft was later transferred to 9 (C) O.T.U. at Crosby on Eden and remained there until the unit disbanded on 11th August 1944. The aircraft saw out it's days in MU storage pending disposal and was eventually struck off charge on 27th September 1945.
