Beaufighter JL545 at Catfoss airfield.

On 2nd March 1943 this 2(C)O.T.U. aircraft swung on take off from Catfoss airfield and the undercarriage collapsed.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Beaufighter JL545 was built to contract B.85570/40 by the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Old Mixon and was awaiting collection in November 1942. The aircraft was taken on charge soon after completion by 2 (C)O.T.U. at Catfoss but the date it arrived is not yet known. The aircraft received minor Cat.A(c)/FA damage on 2nd March 1943 and was repaired on site and was returned to the unit. The aircraft is believed to have remained with 2 (C)OTU until they disbanded on 15th February 1944. The aircraft was struck off charge much later on 27th September 1945 and I assume it was in MU store prior to this.
