Halifax JD367 damaged in the air, landed at Melbourne airfield.

On the night of 4th / 5th October 1943 the crew of this 10 Squadron aircraft were tasked with flying an operational flight to bomb Frankfurt and took off from Melbourne at 17.40hrs. The crew released their bomb load over the target area from 17,000 feet at 21.44hrs. While over the target area the aircraft was struck from above by falling incendiaries released by a higher flying aircraft. Despite the damage the crew were able to fly the aircraft back to Melbourne and they landed at 01.40hrs.
