Halifax JD311 near Snaith airfield.
At 11.30hrs on 12th July 1943 this 51 Squadron was in the process of taking off from Snaith when it swung off the runway in a gusty wind. The pilot was unable to fully bring the aircraft back under control and it came to rest in a cornfield ajoining the airfield. The aircraft's undercarriage may have received some damage but probably remained upright. The aircraft was to have been air tested prior to a planned operational sortie that evening but which was subsequently cancelled.
