Halifax JB963 damaged in the air, landed at Elvington airfield.

During the evening of 3rd November 1943 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Dusseldorf and took off from Elvington at 17.15hrs. The crew released their bomb load at 19.54hrs but the height at which they released them is not stated in the squadron records. While over the target the aircraft was struck from above by falling incendiary bombs dropped from a higher flying aircraft and received damage to the mainplanes. Despite the damage the crew flew the aircraft back to base and landed at Elvington at 22.55hrs.
