Halifax JB864 damaged by flak, returned to Pocklington airfield.

On the night of 9th / 10th June 1943 this aircraft was one belonging to 102 Squadron that had carried out an operational flight to bomb Gelsenkirchen. Thick 10/10ths cloud cover was reported as being present over the target area. This aircraft sustained flak damage to various parts of the aircraft including the flight engineer's panel. Despite the damage and a burst tyre a safe landing was made at Pocklington at 05.30hrs.

Kingsley Mountney received a commission to the rank of P/O on probation on 29th September 1943. He was awarded a DFC for service with 102 Squadron, Gazetted on 15th February 1944 and was then promoted to F/O on 29th March 1944 and to F/Lt on 29th September 1945. Post-WW2 he worked as a civilian pilot for a number of companies including BOAC and BEA.
Ronald Pharo received a commission on 5th December 1943 and rose to F/O on 5th June 1943 and F/Lt on 5th December 1943.
Robert Learmond received a commission on 26th July 1944 and rose to F/O six months later. Following service with 102 Squadron he later served with 195 Squadron and received the DFC for service with them, Gazetted on 20th July 1945.
Henry Proctor received a commission on 4th May 1944. He remained in the RAF post-WW2 until 1961.
