Halifax HR804 at Pocklington airfield.
At 19.35hrs on 18th October 1943 the crew of this 102 Squadron aircraft were in the process of taking off from Pocklington airfield to undertake a training flight, with the brakes were applied the crew then increased the power to the engines. The crew then released the brakes but the aircraft began to swing to port which was corrected, it then began to swing to starboard but this swung was not corrected and eventually the strain on the undercarriage caused the starboard leg to collapse.
Pilot - Sgt William Hennys RAF (859667).
The pilot appears to have been posted in to 102 Squadron in September 1943 but was posted out in December 1943 following this and another training flight accident. After this I have not yet traced his movements until he arrived back at 102 Squadron in March 1944 and was posted away again in June 1944. His eyesight was deemed defective for night flying in May 1944 after a further accident at Pocklington involving Halifax HX153.
