Halifax HR657 damaged on Ops, landed at Breighton airfield.

On the night of 24th / 25th June 1943 this 78 Squadron was flown on an operational sortie to bomb Wuppertal and took off from Breighton at 22.58hrs. The crew released their bomb load over the target area from 17,500 feet at 01.32hrs on to PFF target markers. While over the target area the aircraft was struck from above by a number of falling incendiaries and was badly damaged. Despite this damage the crew managed to fly the aircraft back to base and landed at 04.55hrs.
