Martinet HP210 at Driffield airfield.
On 25th April 1943 this 1484 (Bomber) Gunnery Flight aircraft's starboard undercarriage leg would not lock properly as it came into land at Driffield. Despite the pilot's best efforts to make it lock down, he landed with the weight off the unlocked leg for as long as the speed allowed but eventually the aircraft settled onto the starboard side and sustained minor damage.
Pilot - F/Sgt Charles Alfred Winch RAFVR (1377472).
Charles Winch was killed on 13th September 1944 when Wellington MF730 crashed into the sea off Skye while being flown on a training flight with 20 OTU. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
