Martinet HP168 was built to contract ACFT/1690/C.23(a) by Philips and Powys Ltd, at Woodley and was first test flown on 15th December 1942. On 24th December 1942 it was taken on charge by 1481 (B) Gunnery Flight at Lindholme. As a result of a flying accident on 23rd January 1943 minor Cat.A damage appears to have been the initial damage assessment but further assessment upgraded it to Cat.B/FA and it was transported to Miles Aircraft Ltd. at Woodley for a major repair. On completion of the repair it went into MU store where it remained until 2nd January 1945 when it was taken on charge by 14 A.P.C. at Warmwell. On 8th March 1945 it was transferred to 3 A.P.C. at Leuchars. Later in the year it was transferred to 59 O.T.U. at Milfield. On 7th September 1945 it was transferred to the Coastal Command Fighter Affiliation Training Unit at Langham. On 8th March 1946 it returned to Miles Aircraft Ltd. at Woodley where it was intended to convert it to a Queen Martinet but it was given Cat.E status and was struck off charge on 23rd January 1947 though it there is reference to it still present on the airfield on 20th July 1947.
