Wellington HE991 damaged by flak, returned to East Moor airfield.

On the night of 6th / 7th July 1943 this 429 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to lay mines in the sea in the area of the "Jellyfish" fields (near Brest?) and took off from East Moor at 22.07hrs. The aircraft was fired upon by flakships while making three runs to drop the mines and sustained slight damage. The crew were able to make a safe return to East Moor at 04.15hrs.

Henry Blackman received a commission on 15th December 1942 and was promoted to F/O on 15th June 1943. He converted to Halifaxes and returned to 429 Squadron but was killed on 19th / 20th February 1944 when Halifax LK993 failed to return from Ops to Leipzig. He was killed and is buried in Berlin War Cemetery.
George Evans was posted to 405 Squadron later in 1943 and on 3rd January 1944 he lost his life flying with this squadron and is buried in Hanover War Cemetery.
