Beaufighter EL414 at Catfoss airfield.

On 17th May 1943 this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung on take off from Catfoss airfield, from the damage listed in the unit ORB the port undercarriage probably collapsed as it sustained damage and shockloading to the port side of the aircraft.

Pilot - Name unknown.


Beaufighter EL414 was built to contract B.65570/40 by the Bristol Aeroplane Co. Ltd. at Old Mixon and was awaiting collection in September 1942. The aircraft was taken on charge by 2 (C) O.T.U. as new at Catfoss but the date it arrived is not known. As a result of the flying accident on 17th May 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment which saw it repaired on site and returned to the unit. On an unknown date it was transferred to 132 O.T.U. at East Fortune where it remained until being struck off charge on 5th April 1945.
