Beaufighter EL262 at Catfoss airfield.
On 17th May 1943 this No.2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft swung on landing at Catfoss airfield, from the damage listed in the unit ORB it would suggest that the starboard undercarriage collapsed.
Pilot - Name unknown.
Beaufighter EL262 was built to contract B.65570/40 by the Bristol Aeroplane Co. Ltd. at Old Mixon and was awaiting collection in August 1942. The aircraft only ever flew with 2 (C) O.T.U. but the date it was taken on charge by them at Catfoss is not known. As a result of the mishap on 17th May 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site. The aircraft appears to have remained with the unit until it disbanded on 15th February 1944 after which it was placed in long term MU storage until being struck off charge on 20th July 1945.
