Beaufighter EL219 at Catfoss airfield.
On 10th April 1943 the crew of this 2 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit aircraft were undertaking a training flight when a heavy landing was made at Catfoss. The aircraft came to rest with the tail wheel strut broken, the rear of the aircraft damaged and the undercarriage was twisted.

Beaufighter EL219 was built to contract B.65570/40 by the Bristol Aeroplane Company Ltd. at Old Mixon and was awaiting collection in July 1942. The dates it was taken on charge by each unit is not known. The aircraft initially served with 235 Squadron at Chivenor before being transferred to 2 (C) O.T.U. at Catfoss. On 10th April 1943 it sustained Cat.Ac/FA damage at Catfoss that saw the damage repaired on site and the aircraft returned to 2 (C) O.T.U. use. The aircraft later served with 9 (C) O.T.U. at Crosby on Eden and finally 132 (c) O.T.U. at East Fortune. The aircraft was struck off charge on 27th September 1945.
