Stirling EF432 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.
At 16.30hrs on 28th July 1943 this A.F.E.E. aircraft was taking off from Sherburn in Elmet airfield when a contractor's lorry drove across the runway directly in front of the aircraft. The pilot of the Stirling managed to lift the aircraft over the top of the lorry but clipped the cab. The lorry belonged to "Cawood, Wharton and Co." who were carrying out resurfacing work on the airfield, the driver of the lorry, Mr Stiano, sustained a four inch cut to his head. The Stirling flew a circuit of the airfield and landed without incident. Minor damage had resulted to the aircraft.
