Lancaster ED801 at Riccall airfield.
On 27th November 1943 the crew of this 1661 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft undertook some form of training flight but owing to the weather they were forced to make a landing at Riccall airfield because of poor weather that effected flying over the North of England on this date. At 11.30hrs the aircraft was taxying at Riccall with the pilot being waved forward by a member of ground crew when it's port rudder struck a brick wall that formed part of the fire tender building. The building was deemed to have been positioned in a dangerous position to taxying aircraft and was soon removed.
Pilot - P/O Tom Victor Webster RAFVR (160083).
