At 01.45hrs on 12th April 1943 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft sustained minor Cat.Ac/FA damage following a taxying accident when it struck a ground obstruction following landing from a training flight.

Lancaster ED381 was built to contract B.69274/40 by A.V. Roe and Co. Ltd. at Chadderton and was taken on charge by 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit on 8th December 1942. On 12th April 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage resulted following the mishap at Lindholme airfield. The damage was repaired on site and it was returned to 1656 H.C.U. charge on 23rd April 1943. On 17th June 1943 the aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision with Wellington BJ845 over Brize Norton and the Lancaster crashed at Highworth. Seven airmen died as a result of the crash. Cat.E2/FA damage was the damage assessment. The aircraft was struck off charge on 27th June 1943 having clocked up a total of 247 flying hours.
