Lancaster ED379 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.

On 20th January 1943 this 101 Squadron aircraft was flown on an airtest and on landing at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield the rear of the aircraft developed a problem. An investigation found that the tail wheel unit mounting was faulty and that a recommended modification had yet to be made to the aircraft. Minor Cat.Ac damage was the damage assessment that saw it soon repaired.

Lancaster ED379 was delivered as new to 101 Squadron at Holme on Spalding Moor on 9th December 1942. As a result of the mishap there on 20th January 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment. It was repaired on site and was returned to 101 Squadron on 30th January 1943. It failed to return from Ops to Plzen on 17th April 1943 which cost most of the then crew their lives. Cat.Em damage was recorded on the paperwork and it was struck off charge on 30th April 1943.
