Halifax EB243 damaged by flak, returned to Leeming airfield.
On the night of 27th / 28th July 1943 this aircraft was one belonging to 427 Squadron that had carried out an operational flight to bomb Hamburg, the aircraft received flak damage to the starboard inner engine but the crew were able to bring the aircraft back to base where they landed safely at 04.32hrs.

This crew arrived at 427 Squadron on 1st July 1943 and were all killed flying Halifax EB243 on 23rd / 24th August 1943 on Ops to Berlin. Five of the crew are buried Rheinberg War Cemetery while F/Sgt Kirk and Sgt Phillips are buried at Sage War Cemetery. Sgt Norreys was still just eighteen years old. The 427 Squadron ORB records the pilot as being F.J.Cornelius through-out his time with the unit.
