Halifax EB183 damaged in the air, landed at Rufforth airfield.

At 12.00hrs on 7th August 1943 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being given a test flight following an inspection. During the flight the pilot's escape hatch pulled open causing minor damage to the fuselage. The pilot landed without further incident and the aircraft was repaired. The investigation stated that manufacturing faults frequently resulted in the escape hatches protruded above their openings.
