Wellington DV884 was ordered as a Mk.B.III but was built as a Mk.Ic by Vickers Armstrongs Ltd at Chester to contract B124362/40. It was delivered to the RAF in May 1942 and after acceptance at 48 MU it was issued to 57 Squadron at Methwold on 25th May 1942. It was immediately transferred to 1429 Czech Operational Training Flight at Woolfox Lodge on 5th June 1942 (because 57 Squadron no longer operated Wellington MkIc aircraft). It moved to 26 OTU at Wing on 11th Augsut 1942 who damaged it on 18th August 1942. It was repaired on site and returned 26 OTU but was then transferred back to 1429 Czech Op.T.Flt. on 17th September 1942 but by now they were based at Church Broughton. 1429 Cz Op.T.Flt. disbanded on 1st September 1942 and the aircraft passed to 27 OTU at Lichfield on that date, where it stayed until transferred to 6 (c)OTU at Thornaby on 7th November 1942. It suffered Cat.A/FA damage in a taxying accident at Thornaby on 7th February 1943 which was soon repaired on site by a team from Vickers at Weybridge. The 6 (C)OTU orb states it was then damaged again on 21st February 1943 but this incident is not recorded on it's AM Form 78. Cat.A/FA damage would probably have been the damage assessment. It was back with 6 (C)OTU on 27th March 1943. It was transferred to 3 (c)OTU at Cranwell on 15th June 1943 and served there until being flown into store with 27 MU but the date is not recorded on the AM78. It was struck off charge on 28th January 1944.
