Wellington DV883 was built by Vickers Armstrong at Chester and was received by 48 MU at Hawarden on 12th May 1942. It was taken on charge by 57 Squadron on 5th May 1942 but then passed to 1429 Flight on 9th June 1942 and then to 27 OTU on 1st September 1942. It sustained minor Cat.Ac/FA damage on 14th September 1942 that was repaired on site. The aircraft was taken on charge by 6 (C)OTU on 7th November 1942. As a result of the mishap at Thornaby on 5th February 1943 Cat.Ac/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was repaired on site by a team from Vickers at Weybridge. It was returned to 6 (C)OTU on 6th April 1943. On 31st May 1943 a team from Vickers at Weybridge worked on the aircraft again but this was probably a major service rather than for repairing damage. It was returned to 6 (C)OTU on 19th June 1943. The aircraft later passed to 3 (C)OTU on 21st August 1943 and then to 7 OTU on 29th January 1944. It was written off on 12th April 1944.
