Halifax DT585 at Riccall airfield.
At around noon on 21st October 1943 this 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was in the process of taking off from Riccall airfield for an airtest when the pilot attempted to become airborne at too low a speed, the aircraft sank and the undercarriage clipped the ground slightly damaging it. The pilot remained in control and got airborne but after the short flight the aircraft's undercarriage then collapsed on landing at Riccall.
