Halifax DT526 at Snaith airfield.

During the morning of 4th April 1943 this 51 Squadron aircraft was refuelled and then towed to a dispersal point. Twenty minutes later the engines were started and the aircraft caught fire. While the fire was soon put out minor damage to the aircraft resulted. It was thought the fire started because petrol fumes had failed to disperse because there was cold dense fog with no wind at the time and the fumes ignited when the engines were started.
