Lancaster DS741 at Linton on Ouse airfield.

At 16.45hrs on 29th December 1943 the crew of this 426 Squadron aircraft was taxying at Linton on Ouse airfield in preparation for taking off for an operational flight to bomb Berlin when the port wing tip of this aircraft struck the nose of 408 Squadron Lancaster DS767 that was awaiting take off. Minor Cat.A damage resulted to both aircraft that was repaired on site at Linton on Ouse.

Pilot - P/O James Brown RAFVR (159067).


James Brown received a commission on 14th September 1943 to the rank of P/O on probation and rose to F/O six months later. He was awarded the DFC for service with 426 Squadron, Gazetted on 23rd May 1944.
